How We Select Products for TopTen USA Listing
TopTen USA’s approach to listing products is independent, rigorous and transparent. The approach used to select products for listing varies by product category. The key criterion for listing is energy efficiency but, depending on the type of product, may also include environmental, health and safety concerns. In addition, to be listed the product must be available for purchase in the U.S. market.
Our methodology for each category of products is explained in detail on this Web site. To learn about our specific listing criteria for a product category, simply click on one of the links to the left of this text.
Both TopTen USA’s criteria setting and listing determinations are independent from manufacturers. We accept no funds from manufacturers.
In listing products, TopTen USA relies on the best data available for a given product category which includes tests and analysis of products by the government and independent institutions, labels and declarations of manufacturers. We also perform random testing of some products that appear on our lists.
